    With just 3 weeks to go before the long-awaited UN Climate Conference begins in Copenhagen, it would be a very opportune time to take stock and examine the prospects for meaningful agreement being reached. It would seem that we have dodged the bullet and have avoided a catastrophic meltdown of the global financial system, thanks in large part to China and other resilient economies in Asia, but very little progress has occurred on the climate front.

    As we continue our headlong descent into this seemingly never-ending financial and economic black-hole, we’re increasingly skeptical about achieving any real meeting of the minds at the up-coming UN Climate talks in Copenhagen in just a few short months. Not only are the camps for the developed and developing world poles apart both literally and metaphorically speaking, the Europeans are already criticizing the U.S for not going far enough in reducing greenhouse gases, before we’ve even been able to get climate change legislation through Congress!

    Two thousand and eight was another exciting and frenetic year for us. Since our one year stint in China in 2007, it has been virtually non-stop with meetings, conferences, workshops and speaking engagements from Bejing to Brussels.

    We timed our return to Sacramento in November (’07) with the arrival of Chinese delegates for the 1st US-China Public Participation Exchange which EcoLinx Foundation co-hosted with the California Energy Commission and the U.S EPA.

    2006 has been a whirlwind of activity, with no less than 4 trips to China, the most recent of which lasted for nearly 2 months.

    Our latest trip took us from glitzy Hong Kong and the wealthy neighboring province of Guangdong, to 2 of the poorest provinces in China- Guizhou and Sichuan, and then back again to Hong Kong.

    Another whirlwind trip had us criss-crossing the vast expanse of China, from the frigid temperatures of the capitol and Hebei to the balmy sub-tropics of Kunming in Yunnan Province in the Southwest.
